Before/After School Care

In conjunction with The Basin Primary School, we offer Before & After School Care.  The service is operated by OSHCLUB.  For Before School Care, you drop your child at The Basin Primary School and students are walked over to St Bernadette’s for the beginning bell. For After School Care, children are collected from the office and escorted to The Basin Primary.  School Holiday programs are also run by OSHCLUB.

Hours of Operation: 7am-9am and 3.30pm-6.15pm.

Hot Lunches

We do not have a canteen at St Bernadette’s but we offer hot lunch days several times throughout the year where we order from The Basin Bakery.

St Bernadette’s aims to develop values and motivation to build awareness and knowledge on sustainability issues and to take action. We seek to develop students who are able to think critically, innovate and provide solutions towards sustainable living through programs such as composting, kitchen garden, recycling, soft plastics collection, lids for limbs and solar energy.

St Bernadette’s has an agreement with Catholic Care where we provide school based counselling services for appropriate referrals of students or families.

Our school uniform comprises of a summer and winter range along with a sports uniform.  Our uniform shop is located at Spartan School Supplies – 210-214 Canterbury Road, Bayswater North.

Welcoming Our Community

Our Mission & Vision

St Bernadette’s, The Basin is nestled at the base of the Dandenong Ranges in a beautiful rural setting unmatched by any other school in the suburbs of Melbourne. The Dandenong ranges tower over the school and provide a stunning backdrop to the natural environment and expansive grounds upon which the school is built.

St Bernadette’s is a Catholic school where the student is at the centre of everything that the school strives for.  St Bernadette’s provides Catholic school values and education for all school members, but also celebrates and serves the diverse wider community that we are part of by welcoming those from other traditions and faith backgrounds as well as families from a non faith background.

Within a school of approximately 200 students, learning and wellbeing is strongest when learners are engaged within St Bernadette’s community and it is this community that sets us apart from others. At the heart of our school is the desire for the full flourishing of each of our students – their religious, physical, cognitive, emotional and social learning. St Bernadette’s provides Catholic school values and education for all school members, but also celebrates and serves the diverse wider community that we are part of by welcoming those from other traditions and faith backgrounds. As a school community, we are committed to our vision of ‘Striving for Excellence’ as we educate and prepare our students for their future.

Take this opportunity to look around this website and explore the exciting opportunities that are available for all students and families at St Bernadette’s.

Our Principal

“I am extremely proud to be the Principal of St Bernadette’s and have the opportunity with other staff members to shape the future of the children within our care. The single word that resonates with everyone at St Bernadette’s is the word “Community”. Our community is filled with wonderful students, supportive and welcoming parents and amazingly dedicated staff.  The students at St Bernadette’s are supported to engage in a broad range of learning experiences both within and beyond the classroom.”

What Parents are Saying

“I love the community culture at St B’s and that everyone in the school acknowledges you by name.  My kids have all had great experiences and made some amazing friends.  I love the school’s innovation and creativity and how they apply that to learning”
Sarah Garbuio

“Surrounded by nature St Bernadette’s is a community minded school buzzing with activity and learning. We have been at St Bernadette’s for 12 years now, with dedicated and enthusiastic staff our children have flourished in their learning and experiences. Being in a smaller school you are known and can feel that real sense of belonging. There are many activities which stand out such as Cafe kids, stage productions, Art exhibitions, sporting events, music lessons, bike Ed, camps, vegetable gardens, leadership opportunities, community events and not forgetting our delightful library. During the covid pandemic the staff have been outstanding with embracing technology to deliver the home school learning program and communication with families. If you are looking for a school with great community, Christian values and caring staff in a beautiful setting then come and take a tour!”

Wizard of Oz Production Feedback
“The children were delightful and it was obvious how much they enjoyed performing which was wonderful and the audience loved it. It was very clear by the standard of the entire production how much time and effort had been put in to planning and rehearsing to make the show “come together on the night”. Huge shout out to all the staff who must have put in enormous hours to make it so successful. What you achieve everyday with and for our children could never have a value placed on it. You
really do set them up for success in the future so we all owe you a great debt. I am the proud grandmother of a Dorothy and a tree, both of whom performed well above my expectation so I am looking forward to watching a repeat sitting when the dvd come out. Again my thanks and hearty congratulations to all the staff and students.”

Liz - Grandparent

“What I love about St Bernadette’s is the inclusiveness, the community spirit and that sense of belonging felt by both the student and their families.  The pride our students have in their school is overwhelming and speaks volumes to the holistic teaching approach.  Success is encouraged, recognised and celebrated across all levels.  Whether your child is academic, sporty or creative they have an opportunity to shine.”
Julianne Beck

“I think the way that you and your team have adapted to this new phase of remote learning is commendable. The content is great, the delivery is excellent and my boys are both engaged and happy with each day’s
lessons.  From our end the transition seems almost seamless, although I know this is only due to the hard work, adaptability, professionalism and caring of the wonderful teacher group we have. Please pass on our
gratitude and heartfelt appreciation to all your team. Once again St. B’s is a shining example to the larger community.”
