Levelled Literacy Intervention
Many schools offer formal reading intervention and support programs in Year One and Year Two. At St Bernadette’s, we use Fountas & Pinnell Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) in every level from Year One through to Year Six. The commitment that our school has put into this most important area ensures that all children who require additional support with their reading receive it throughout their school journey.
LLI is a dynamic intervention program that provides regular, intensive, small-group instruction in addition to our classroom literacy teaching. The goal of LLI is to lift the literacy achievement of students who are not achieving grade-level expectations in reading.
LLI provides students with the opportunity for focused, teacher directed discussions around texts with a strong emphasis on deepening and expanding comprehension skills.
Each LLI lesson involves a combination of reading (including phonological awareness, phonics/word study, comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, spelling, and oral language development) and writing (including spelling, sentence construction, and writing in response to reading to increase comprehension).
