Physical Education and Sport

At St Bernadette’s, the aim of the Physical Education Program is to instil a lifelong commitment to the overall health and well being of our students. Our PE lessons focus on developing confidence, strength and knowledge in the fundamentals of the body and movement. Our Junior School program focuses on developing the fundamental motor skills to enable students to participate in games and sport. Our middle and senior programs extend on the fundamental skills to develop game skills and positive team behaviours.

Students are also encouraged to participate in a range of sporting activities such as Swimming (P-2), Hoop-time (3-6) Bike Education (3/4) and outdoor education camps (5/6). Every year, St Bernadette’s conducts a whole school Cross Country and Athletics competition to promote our 4 coloured House system. Additionally, our school is a member of the Bayswater District Sports Association and competes in summer and winter inter-school sport, District Swimming, District Athletics and District Cross Country. Students have the opportunity to try out for Victorian Primary School teams and to represent our school at Divisional, Regional and State Championships. The focus of these events is to identify children with natural talent and abilities to compete at a higher representative level.

The physical education program at St Bernadette’s is designed primarily for fitness, enjoyment, socialisation skills, sporting etiquette and for students to learn skills to assist them in physical performance throughout their lives.
